Zelensky, Trump to Meet in Florida as Russia Intensifies Ukraine Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday for crucial talks aimed at ending the Ukraine war, as fresh Russian missile and drone attacks hit Kyiv and other regions.

Russia launched hundreds of strikes across Ukraine on Saturday, cutting power and heating in parts of the capital. Zelensky called the attacks Moscow’s response to ongoing US-brokered peace negotiations.

Zelensky said discussions with Trump will focus on the future of the Donbas region, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and long-term security guarantees. His delegation arrived in Florida late Saturday, confirmed by Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister.

Donbas Remains the Biggest Obstacle

The main sticking point is territory. Russia demands full control of Donbas, including areas still held by Ukraine, while Kyiv wants current battle lines frozen. The US has proposed a compromise, but details remain unclear.

Zelensky said the 20-point peace plan is nearly complete but unresolved on land concessions. If talks stall, he suggested the plan could be put to a national referendum, provided Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire.

Allies Back Ukraine as Doubts Over Russia Grow

Canada and European leaders rallied behind Kyiv following the attacks. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pledged C$2.5 billion in new aid, saying peace “requires a willing Russia.” EU leaders reaffirmed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Zelensky will brief European allies after his meeting with Trump, as fears grow that Moscow may reject any deal that falls short of its demands.
