Trump Asks PM Shehbaz to Join Proposed Gaza ‘Board of Peace’, Says FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Saturday confirmed that former United States president Donald Trump has formally invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to become part of a proposed Gaza “Board of Peace,” an initiative linked to post-conflict stabilization efforts in the region.

An FO spokesperson said the proposal aims to bring together selected international leaders to contribute ideas on humanitarian relief, reconstruction, and long-term peace in Gaza following recent hostilities. The spokesperson noted that the initiative is still under discussion and that its final structure and scope have yet to be determined.

Pakistan, the FO reiterated, has consistently advocated a peaceful and just solution to the Palestinian issue in line with United Nations resolutions and international law. Any potential engagement with the proposed board would reflect Islamabad’s longstanding position supporting Palestinian rights and a two-state solution.

Diplomatic sources indicated that relevant authorities in Pakistan are reviewing the invitation, with consultations underway to assess the initiative’s objectives and expected commitments. No final decision has been made regarding participation.

Political analysts view the outreach as recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic role and humanitarian advocacy on issues concerning Gaza. However, they caution that such forums can only be effective if backed by genuine international consensus and practical steps on the ground.

The Foreign Office again called for sustained ceasefire arrangements, unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza, and renewed global diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and ensure lasting peace.
