Speaking to reporters at the Hyderabad Press Club on Friday, Aaqib said the nature of pitches in Sri Lanka traditionally favors slow bowlers, making spin a central factor in determining tournament success.
“The team with the best spinners has more chances to win this tournament,” he stated, adding that Pakistan’s current squad reflects improved balance and tactical clarity.
With the high-profile Pakistan versus India clash approaching, Aaqib suggested the national side appears better positioned compared to previous editions. He described the present phase as a positive period for Pakistan cricket, citing recent performances as evidence of consistency.
Assessing rival teams, he observed that Australia and England may face challenges adapting to spin-friendly surfaces, while emphasizing that every team carries its own strengths.
On Babar Azam’s role in T20 cricket, Aaqib noted that the format has evolved significantly. He stressed that quick-impact innings now outweigh traditional milestones, highlighting that a rapid 20 off a handful of deliveries can be more influential than a conventional fifty.
