Pakistan says it has eliminated 26 militants and destroyed multiple terrorist facilities in a major intelligence-based operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, marking one of the most significant cross-border counter terrorism actions in recent months.
According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the operation targeted militant hideouts linked to Fitna-al-Khawarij, the term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Security forces reportedly carried out precise strikes against four key locations identified through credible intelligence.
Officials said the destroyed targets included a training centre, operational hideouts, an ammunition storage facility, and command hubs allegedly associated with militant commanders Aleem Khan Khushali and Akhtar Muhammad Jani Khel.
The operation follows a series of deadly attacks on Pakistani security personnel. On Tuesday, militants attacked a Federal Constabulary post in Musa Dara, Peshawar, killing six personnel before security forces repelled the assault and neutralised eight attackers. Authorities have also linked recent violence in North Waziristan and Bannu to militant groups operating from across the border.
Tarar said Pakistan remains committed to regional peace but will continue taking decisive action against threats to national security. He reaffirmed that the government's Azm-i-Istehkam strategy will remain fully active to dismantle terrorist networks and their support infrastructure.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban administration to act against militant sanctuaries allegedly used for attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul has rejected those claims, insisting that Pakistan's security challenges are an internal issue.
The latest operation comes months after Chinese-mediated talks between Islamabad and Kabul sought to ease tensions, underscoring the continuing security challenges facing the region.
