In a fresh militant attack on education, a government girls’ school in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, was destroyed by explosives, spreading fear and anxiety among students and parents in the area.
According to police officials, the attack took place in Eppi village, where unidentified militants planted explosives inside the school building overnight, causing a powerful blast that completely demolished the structure. The school was closed at the time of the explosion, and no casualties were reported.
Government sources said around 250 girls were enrolled at the school, which was the only educational institution for girls in the locality. Students traveled from remote areas to attend classes, making the attack a major blow to girls’ education in North Waziristan.
This incident comes just days after another government primary school was blown up in the same district, affecting the education of more than 600 children and raising serious concerns over school security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police reached the site soon after the blast, collected evidence, and launched an investigation against unknown perpetrators. The attack caused significant damage to government property and triggered panic among residents.
Condemning the attack, a local tribal elder said targeting schools was an assault on the nation’s future and urged the government to bring those responsible to justice. The district administration also strongly denounced the incident and announced enhanced security measures for educational institutions.
Parents and civil society members have called on authorities to rebuild the destroyed school and ensure the continuity of education amid a series of similar attacks on girls’ schools in KP, including incidents in Lakki Marwat and Mir Ali in recent years.
