KP Police Officer and Brother Martyred in Lakki Marwat Gun Attack Amid Rising Terror Threats

Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – A police official and his brother were killed in a gun attack near the Hayatkhel area in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday. The slain officers were identified as Amir Nawaz and Khana Gul, brothers of former district councilor Ali Gul. Their bodies were transferred to the district headquarters hospital.

Police Response and Investigation

District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan said it is too early to confirm the reason behind the attack. Authorities are investigating whether it was linked to terrorism. A police team reached the scene and launched a search operation.

Recent Attacks on Law Enforcement in KP

This attack is part of a recent surge in violence targeting law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Earlier on Tuesday, a constable and another person were killed in Bajaur’s Salarzai tehsil when unidentified gunmen attacked a polio team.

On December 1, a police officer was martyred and five others were injured in a suicide blast in Lakki Marwat.

In November, three police personnel were killed responding to a terrorist attack on a checkpost in Hangu district.

Rising Terrorism in KP and Balochistan

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, vowing to target security forces, police, and law enforcement personnel. Amid rising militant attacks, the KP police have requested a special allowance costing around Rs4.2 billion per month to support officers working in high-risk areas.
