Karachi Cop Arrested for Alleged ‘Honour’ Killing of Wife

KARACHI: Police in Karachi have arrested a serving cop, a police inspector with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), who allegedly shot his wife in an alleged honour killing in Shadman Town, officials confirmed. The incident occurred on Friday and has sparked renewed concern over domestic violence and honour-related crimes in Pakistan.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi, the 40-year-old woman was shot at their home following a domestic dispute. The suspect initially fled the scene but was apprehended during a police raid later that night. Authorities recovered the murder weapon from the suspect, who is now in custody.

“This is a sensitive case, and all further proceedings and interrogation will be conducted according to the law,” SSP Siddiqui said.

Reports indicate that this was the suspect’s second marriage, and he allegedly had doubts about his wife being in contact with her former husband.

Honour killings continue to plague Pakistan, claiming the lives of women across the country. Human rights organizations, including the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), have repeatedly raised concerns about these crimes and the societal norms that perpetuate them.
