2026 FIFA World Cup Winners to Earn $50 Million as FIFA Announces Record Prize Money

The winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will pocket $50 million in prize money, as part of a record-breaking financial package announced by FIFA, world football’s governing body, on Wednesday.

According to FIFA, the total prize fund for the 2026 World Cup will reach $655 million (€558.5 million) — an increase of nearly 50 per cent compared to the $440 million distributed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. It will also mark a historic expansion, with 48 teams competing, up from 32 teams in previous tournaments.

At the last World Cup, Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, received $42 million after lifting the trophy following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over France in the final. France, the runners-up, earned $30 million.

For World Cup 2026, FIFA has further increased payouts across all stages. The losing finalists will receive $33 million, while the third-place team will collect $29 million. The remaining semi-finalists will earn $27 million each.

Teams knocked out in the group stage will receive $9 million, while all 48 participating nations will also be awarded an additional $1.5 million to cover preparation and operational costs, ensuring broader financial support across global football.

With expanded teams, higher payouts and record prize money, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to become the most lucrative tournament in football history.
