Karachi Road Accidents Rise as Female Motorcyclist Dies in Trailer Crash in Landhi

KARACHI: Dangerous road conditions in Karachi continued on Thursday when a young female motorcyclist lost her life after being hit by a trailer in the Landhi area.

Police said the accident happened on the main Mehran Highway near MN Textile. A 10-wheeler trailer struck the 20-year-old woman while she was riding her motorcycle.

“She was badly injured and died at the scene,” said Quaidabad SHO Mohammad Ali Shah. He added that the trailer driver ran away after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind. Police later took the trailer into custody.

The woman’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to complete legal procedures.

In another accident the same night, a 60-year-old man was killed after being hit by a trailer near the Akhtar Colony signal in Defence Phase 1, according to the Edhi Foundation.

The Edhi spokesperson said that since January 1, at least three people have died in traffic accidents in Karachi, while 70 others were injured. The injured included 10 children and 20 women.

Despite a government ban on daytime movement of heavy vehicles in the city—extended until February 22—fatal accidents involving trailers and trucks continue to occur.

Earlier this week, four people, including two brothers, were killed in separate road accidents on the Super Highway. Last week, a young motorcyclist was also killed in Mauripur after being hit by a trailer.

The repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about road safety and the movement of heavy vehicles in Karachi.
