Bannu Mosque Terror Attack: Two Policemen Abducted During Taraweeh, Found Martyred

BANNU: Militants stormed a mosque during Taraweeh prayers in Bannu on Wednesday night, abducting three brothers including two serving policemen. Hours later, the two police personnel were found martyred, triggering grief and outrage across the district.
According to eyewitnesses, 10 to 12 armed men entered the mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, held worshippers at gunpoint and forcibly took away the three brothers. The abducted men were identified as Saeed Akhtar, a clerk at the commissioner’s office, and Amjad and Hazratullah, both serving in the Wazir subdivision police force.
Police confirmed that the bodies of Amjad and Hazratullah were recovered along Marwat Canal Road. They were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. The third brother remains missing, and search operations are ongoing.
Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan, speaking at the funeral ceremony at Police Lines Bannu on Thursday, condemned the mosque attack as a “deeply reprehensible act” and confirmed that the kidnappers were linked to a militant group. He stated that a full-scale operation has been launched and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faheem Khan and senior officials attended the funeral prayers, where the martyred officers were laid to rest with full state honours, including a guard of honour.
The attack comes days after a suicide assault during an intelligence-based operation in the district claimed the lives of a lieutenant colonel and a sepoy on February 21.
