3 Police Officers Injured in Terror Attack on Prisoner Transport Vehicle in KP’s Bannu
BANNU: Three police officers were injured on Thursday after a police vehicle transporting prisoners came under attack by terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu, according to security sources.
Sources in Bannu police told Dawn that the vehicle, which belonged to Hangu police, was carrying prisoners to Hangu for court appearances when it was ambushed on Domel Link Road. Armed attackers opened fire on the vehicle while it was en route.
A source from the Bannu Central Jail administration confirmed that the prisoners were being transported as part of routine court proceedings when the attack occurred.
Police Vehicle Diverted After Attack
Following the incident, the driver reportedly changed the route and safely reached Karak, police sources said. Two of the injured officers were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Karak for medical treatment.
Hangu District Police Officer (DPO) Khanzaib Mohmand visited the injured personnel at the hospital. Karak police later confirmed that a total of three police officers sustained injuries in the attack.
Security Tightened, Investigation Underway
Police said an investigation has been launched into the incident, while security in the area has been tightened to prevent further attacks.
Rising Attacks on Police in KP
The latest incident comes amid a surge in attacks targeting law enforcement personnel across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On January 4, a police constable, Rashid Khan, was martyred in a shooting by unidentified attackers in the Kashfi Khel area of Bannu. He was heading to work when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire.
Last month, five police officers were injured in a late-night terrorist attack on a police checkpost in the Shaikh Landak area of Bannu.
The recent incidents highlight growing security challenges in southern KP, particularly for police personnel performing routine duties.
